Misha, the official mascot of the 1980 Olympic Games was a present from Dan Fisher of the Los Angeles Times and the writers Ken Thomson and Charles Osborne donated Smokey Bear, who has been the official United States Forest Fire Prevention Mascot since 1944. The Museum's most distinguished French Bear was formally presented to the British people by the French Ambassador in July 1989 at a special ceremony marking the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The original Fozzie Bear, a gift from Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets, is a great favorite with visitors.

 


The Prince of Love

 

In the library, you will find lots of bears with famous owners. Look out for Barbara Cartland's bejewelled bear the "Prince of Love", Percy who belonged to the sixth Marquess of Bath, Omar the cuddly friend of Edwina Currie, MP turned novelist, Jeffrey Archer's bear, Prince Phillip's bear and many many more.
